The predicted salary is between 24000 - 36000 £ per year.

The post holder will be expected to undertake semi-skilled craft duties to enable effective installation, maintenance and repair of a wide range of plant and equipment. Carry out day to day maintenance and fault repairs and testing as instructed by the Mechanical and Electrical Manager (M and E Manager) and other skilled trades. To apply a flexible attitude and approach to carrying out all assigned tasks. The postholder must have good time management skills, be able to work alone or unsupervised when necessary and adhere to Health and Safety principles.

Main duties of the job:

  • The post holder will be required to carry out basic maintenance and repair tasks on the following:
  • Heating, hot and cold-water systems
  • Wastewater systems
  • Air conditioning systems
  • Domestic electrical appliances
  • Portable appliance testing and minor repairs
  • Catering equipment
  • Plant room inspections and various other types of mechanical and electrical plant and equipment as required
  • Identify solutions to faults and present repair and replacement options to the M&E Manager
  • Work within Estates planned maintenance programmes, planning own work to meet requirements
  • Carry out plantroom and workshop cleaning and ensure all plant areas are maintained in a clean and tidy condition at all times
  • Complete regular utilities meter readings for water, gas, electricity, and fuel oil
  • Interpret and work from appropriate instructions, drawings and specifications
  • Record accurately details of works completed including time, date, job content, location and materials used
  • Update logbooks, registers and other statutory records as directed by the M&E Manager
  • Assist other Estates staff as directed by the M&E Manager

    Job responsibilities:

    • Power tools and access equipment will be provided by the Trust and the postholder is responsible for storage and security of these. Basic tools are to be supplied and maintained by the craftsperson.
    • Will be required to fully participate in the effective running of a computer-aided facilities management (CAFM) system where applicable.
    • Maintain cleanliness and safety of their work area and workshop/storage areas.
    • The post holder will have use of a Trust credit card for the purchases of Trust materials/equipment only. It will be the post holder's responsibility to ensure the security of the credit card.
    • Attend training sessions, seminars, and courses for the purpose of self-development as directed by the Head of Estates Operations or Estates M&E Managers. Attend manufacturers training courses for engineering plant and equipment as required.
    • The post holder must wear the personal protection equipment provided and follow safety precautions. They should familiarise themselves with the Estates Department Tradesperson Safety Manual and ensure that safe working practices are adhered to in compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
    • The post holder is required to familiarise themselves with Estates and Trust Policies and Procedures, to always adhere to them and to comment on any possible improvement or inaccuracies where appropriate.
    • To work to industry standards, local operating procedures, and policies. To work within Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) guidelines.
    • The post holder must possess a full UK driving licence and be prepared to use own car to travel between SCFT properties to undertake duties.
    • Reimbursement is made for all authorised travel.

    Person Specification:

    • Qualifications and/or Professional Registration: GCSE pass in Maths and English or equivalent qualification or level of attainment can be demonstrated.
    • Experience: Experience of basic engineering plant and equipment maintenance including lighting and power systems, portable appliances, domestic appliances, firefighting systems and other associated building services plant and equipment. Basic Carpentry skills are also required. Experience in a similar role. Experience of using computers.
    • Skills and Knowledge: To effect basic repairs to mechanical and electrical plant and equipment. Skilled in the basic use of hand and powered tools. Full UK Driving Licence. Must possess good time management skills. Use of planned maintenance systems and record keeping. An understanding in relation to service delivery and relationships with colleagues. Written and verbal communication skills enabling recording of plant data and records. Able to interpret and work from instructions. Awareness of the Health and Safety at Work Act, Electricity at Work Act, Legionella Control Awareness of other trade duties.
    • Other Requirements: Access to own vehicle for work purposes.
    • Disclosure and Barring Service Check: This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
