We are looking to recruit a Specialist Clinical Fellow (ST3 equivalent, possessing MRCP but not necessarily any endoscopic experience) with an interest in Gastroenterology to join our department that consists of: 9 Consultants, 2 SpRs and 14 FY1/FY2/IMT and Trust grades. The doctors are joined by several dedicated CNS that support IBD (3), nutrition (2) and hepatology (3).
The GI unit has just been accredited as a JAG training centre and has an excellent local reputation for endoscopy training which is carried out in one of our 3 endoscopy departments (Frimley, Heatherwood and Wexham). Gastroenterology at Frimley Park is a busy and thriving department providing a comprehensive range of services to patients with gastrointestinal disorders. There are particular strengths in endoscopy training, hepatology and inflammatory bowel disease.
Main duties of the job:
- Learning to manage and treat Gastroenterology patients across both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.
- Running ward rounds, supporting juniors as well as seeing Gastroenterology referrals.
- Participating in dedicated training endoscopy lists and managing your own outpatient clinics, with follow-up determined by endoscopic findings.
- Depending on experience and preference, there will be opportunities to train in the delivery of a specialised nutrition service; become involved with industry trials in hepatology and IBD as well as participate in departmental audit and quality improvement projects.
The post holder will support the general medical take. The GIM middle grade unselected take runs on a rolling 17-week rota cycle which would include 1 in 9 nights and weekends and approximately 1 in 17 long day shifts.

Person Specification:
- Full registration with GMC and a licence to practice.
- MBBS or equivalent.
- MRCP.
- JAG accreditation in OGD.
- Demonstration of experience in Gastroenterology/Endoscopy.
- Ability to offer clinical opinion on a range of problems in Gastroenterology/Endoscopy.
- Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients.
- Experience of MDT working.
- Wide experience of Endoscopy.
- Competent at diagnostic and basic therapeutic colonoscopy.
- Experience of independent endoscopy working.
- Evidence of good written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of endoscopy pathway and guidelines.
- Personal participation in audit.
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
- Interest in audit and research.
