Sussex Wildlife Trust’s Nature Reserves team is undergoing an exciting expansion; three new Senior Ranger positions have been created—one for each area nature reserve management team: Western Reserves (Woods Mill), Central Reserves (Southerham Farm), and Eastern Reserves (Rye Harbour). These roles focus on day‑to‑day management of reserves, line‑management of a small team of Rangers, and support of annual traineeships.
Responsibilities
- Deliver day‑to‑day management of nature reserves within the area team’s remit.
- Line‑manage a small team of Rangers, recruit and oversee contractors, and coordinate conservation grazing with the in‑house Grazing team.
- Work closely with the Monitoring and Evidence team to ensure appropriate ecological monitoring and adaptive management.
- Coordinate public engagement, communication, and partnership with external stakeholders, neighbours, and tenants.

We are looking for an experienced Ranger with a broad background in managing dynamic nature reserves, a passion for wildlife, and strong leadership skills. The ideal candidate can inspire inter‑team collaboration, act as a visible presence at public events, and maintain professional relationships with neighbours, tenants, and new members. Proven ability to have challenging but constructive conversations and commitment to wildlife action is required.
