Sussex Teachers are recruiting a Primary School Teaching Assistant to support pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 at a welcoming village primary school near Hailsham in East Sussex. This full-time Teaching Assistant job in East Sussex begins before the Easter holidays and will run until the end of the academic year in July. The role offers the opportunity to support classroom learning while providing 1:1 SEND support for a pupil with autism (ASD). The school is located just north of Hailsham and is easily accessible from Polegate, Eastbourne, Heathfield, and Horam, with regular bus routes nearby.

About the Teaching Assistant Role

As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you will support teachers and pupils across Key Stage 2, helping maintain a calm and positive learning environment. You will also work one-to-one with a pupil with SEND, supporting emotional regulation, engagement in lessons, and access to learning. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in schools, childcare, nursery, or care settings, particularly those interested in SEN Teaching Assistant jobs in East Sussex.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom support for KS2 pupils, assisting with learning activities and behaviour management
  • Deliver 1:1 support for a pupil with SEND (Autism/ASD) to help them engage in lessons and regulate emotions

  • Assist with playtime and lunchtime supervision, encouraging positive social interaction and wellbeing

Requirements

  • Recent experience supporting children (school, nursery, childcare, youth work, or care settings)
  • Ability to provide two professional references
  • Availability Monday–Friday (8:45am – 3:15pm)
  • Experience supporting SEND or SEN pupils, particularly autism, is highly desirable
