The Role & Key Responsibilities:
From your first day with us you will be part of a Sussex Police Road Safety Team (SPRST) making a real difference across Sussex. SPRST is aiming to reduce collisions and casualties on the roads in Sussex in line with the Government’s targets recently published in the DFT Road Safety Strategy. You will be required to build traffic offence case files in preparation for Crown Prosecution Service Advice and court trials. They are required to examine and assess all documents and maintain and manage exhibits in investigations as identified by the Prosecutions Manager or Officer in the Case. You will also be required to review material relating to the alleged offence and decide the relevance of that material to the investigation and suitable disclosure methods.
Applicants will be expected to gain a good working knowledge of the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA) and current Attorney General Disclosure guidelines. Knowledge of court procedures would be an advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
- To prepare files as according to Crown Prosecution Service requirements.
- Taking a proactive approach in supporting cases through to conclusion at court.
- To take on the role of disclosure and exhibits officer in road traffic court files.
- Obtain additional statements and additional evidence where necessary.
- Action and respond to correspondence from all involved parties including all agencies within the Criminal Justice System.
- Reviewing the material generated and assessing its evidential relevance.
- Advise the Investigation team on all aspects of file preparation and disclosure, including that of sensitive material, and actively take part in case meetings.
- Provide training, advice and support to staff involved in case preparation as required.
Skills & Experience:
- Ideally to have experience of case build and file preparation.
- Knowledge of court procedures would be an advantage.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- To have a strong working knowledge and practical experience of the application of data protection.
- Knowledge of the Criminal Procedures and Investigation Act 1996 (CPIA) and current Attorney General Disclosure Guidelines, and an understanding of the role of Disclosure Officer would be desirable.
- Recent and relevant experience within an investigations or criminal justice environment and experience of document and exhibit management.
- High standard of computer literacy/ Advantageous to have knowledge of police and criminal justice IT systems.
- Proven experience in collating and assessing information and making concise and accurate decisions.
- Work effectively as part of a team and able to work effectively on own initiative.
- Able to demonstrate good organisational, planning and time management skills.
