It is a privilege to lead the teams in Surrey Police and Sussex Police who continuously work selflessly and tirelessly in order to keep people in our counties safe. We are looking for talented and inspirational people who put the needs of the public at the heart of everything that they do and who want to make a difference. If you feel you are that person then we want to hear from you.

The Role & Key Responsibilities: From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference. It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.

SALARY RANGE from £64,869 (M3/48) to £76,794 (M3/56) + Market Rate Supplement of £5,000 + LGPS Pension + Great Benefits Package.

In this role, you will be leading the commercial components of the programme of Estate Transformation within the Sussex Police Estate – making it fit for the future by having the right estate, in the right locations, supporting our people, serving our communities.

The Estate Transformation programme is a unique opportunity to reset the built estate across Sussex, through optimising and investing in our buildings to meet modern Policing needs; responding to the challenges of agile and efficient working; getting to NETZERO carbon; and addressing our repair liabilities – towards making our estate a great place to work that enables operational Policing.

On a programme level you will be working with, challenging and monitoring project leaders on over 20 projects forming part of the overall Estate Transformation programme (including associated projects), up to £160m in value. Projects will range in size and complexity from c£1m refurbishments through to large complex new Police bases of c£30m, within distinct programme workstreams. You will also be dealing with complex disposals and acquisitions projects to rationalise our estate.

You will be an experienced commercial programme manager (PQS) or senior leader having delivered multiple programmes of complex capital construction projects through consultant teams and/or leading client‑side teams. You will be an expert in leading people through RIBA stages, and ensuring high quality stakeholder engagement and communication/reporting, whilst having a sharp focus on commercials, programme, cost and risk, together with safety as most projects will require operational Policing to continue.

You will be skilled in leading across programmes of work with a focus on monitoring, reporting and risk mitigation, being adept at both transcending into detail and keeping a high level oversight. You will be an outstanding commercial communicator and negotiator, able to lead both staff and consultants through complex programmes and projects with many challenges.

As a qualified professional (RICS) your post‑degree experience will provide an extensive knowledge and competence base to be able to work independently and with autonomy. Experience in the commercial and/or public sector (non‑housing) estate is essential to operate in the role, together with being highly conversant with standard forms of building contract (JCT/NEC); CDM expertise; and having been previously in a position of leading programmes/Leading Capital delivery.

The Estates Transformation team is newly formed, and this is a great opportunity to shape the formation of systems, processes and standard ways of working within a small collaborative team. If you are ready for a new career challenge or just a change then apply – this is a ‘once in a life‑time’ opportunity to reshape the Built Estate for Sussex Police that will have a lasting legacy.
