The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Professional Standards Department for a Business Support Assistant, working directly to the Business Support Manager. The department is responsible for the recording and resolution of public complaints, as well as the investigation of conduct allegations relating to both Police Officers and staff across Sussex.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role within the team, supporting the day-to-day running of the department. The postholder will be responsible for producing reports and providing data analysis and commentary using our main complaint recording system, Centurion. You will identify trends within the data, highlight opportunities to improve services for colleagues and the public, and support the effective management of misconduct and complaints recording processes.

Other aspects of the role include supporting the management of Freedom of Information requests received by the department. This will involve helping to record and publish relevant information on our external website, ensuring content is accurate and up to date.

Having a flexible approach to achieve any team or departmental objective is crucial to the success of this role, along with having the ability to work to tight deadlines, and the willingness to undertake a wide range of duties to support the department.

Skills & Experience

  • Well-developed computer skills with extensive knowledge of Excel are essential - you will be given training on the Centurion system and the report writing tools that you will be expected to use.
  • Previous experience of researching, assimilating, and making sense of relevant information from a range of open and closed information sources.
  • Work effectively with minimum supervision with the ability to work under pressure, prioritise workloads and produce accurate work within tight deadlines.

The Department deals with highly sensitive and confidential information, including material relating to serious incidents including domestic abuse. This role requires a high level of discretion, integrity and professionalism. Applicants should have the emotional resilience to work with such material sensitively and appropriately, in line with the values and standards of Sussex Police.
