As a Biometrics Volunteer you will join the friendly Attraction and Recruitment Team to play a crucial role in supporting the recruitment of all new Police Officers, PCSOs and Special Constables. In order to complete biometric vetting we require our candidates to attend in person appointments to supply DNA and fingerprints; these are then stored on the elimination database to be ruled out at crime scenes, prior to commencing employment.
The Role & Key Responsibilities
- Setting up the room for sample taking
- Escorting candidates to and from reception and the sampling rooms
- Briefing the candidates on the process
- Carrying out the DNA and fingerprint sampling
- Quality checking samples prior to submission
- Taking the samples for delivery to the testing team
The role is based at our Headquarters site in Lewes. Please note that the role is not in a lab type setting, it is customer facing and involves interactions while taking samples.
Skills & Experience
- Communication skills: for guiding and instructing candidates.
- Attention to detail: ensuring all samples and associated paperwork are completed accurately.
- Escort candidates around site where required, which will involve a few minutes’ walk around the campus and stairs on multiple occasions on appointment days.
The sessions occur on an ad-hoc basis and are generally held between 08:00 and 16:00 weekdays (usually on Wednesdays) once or twice a month. Volunteers are expected to commit to full or half days of supporting these appointments.
If you are a clear communicator with an attention to detail, we want to hear from you! Previous policing or forensic experience is not essential as training for the sample taking will be provided.
