The Role & Key Responsibilities
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Systems Audit Specialist within the Surrey Police Anti‑Corruption Unit. Supporting the Anti‑Corruption unit (ACU) strand of the Professional Standards Department (PSD) by enhancing access to systems and the technology used for audit work, identifying innovative ways to proactively detect corruption through ICT systems and bespoke system monitoring software. Responsibility for managing and auditing police employees' use of the force systems to identify computer misuse, disclosure of information or other misconduct for PSD ACU development work, and also to service internal and external audit requests from other departments. Ensuring that the ACU and PSD keep up with technological developments ensuring we have coverage and capability to audit new systems, devices and software. To work with project owners and software vendors to ensure that proposed audit logs are fit for purpose and appropriately tested.
You will be based at Surrey Police HQ and work mainly Monday to Friday, with a requirement to work unsociable hours and weekends when operationally necessary. This is a permanent posting and applicants must be supported by their line managers. Owing to the nature of the role applications cannot be accepted from individuals who are subject of current misconduct/gross misconduct investigation nor those who have a live misconduct finding. A review of complaints, conduct and intelligence will be made and applications may be refused without explanation. The successful applicant will be subject to enhanced SC vetting prior to appointment. The successful candidate will also be required to attend courses specific to the role.
Skills & Experience
- Displays excellent written communication skills and has experience of assimilating large volumes of data and writing complex research‑based reports summarising technical findings in non‑technical terms.
- Highly motivated with excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills to speak to key stakeholders, customers, chief officers and senior managers with a high degree of confidence and authority about systems access and accessibility / vulnerability; able to translate the complexities of transactional access data into simple and straightforward 'plain English'.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Excel.
- Proficient in using other Microsoft Office applications such as PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
- Hold a full and valid driving licence.
- Ability to learn, manipulate and utilise unfamiliar software programs with limited initial training or support.
- Experience in identifying or developing practices to analyse large amounts of data to reach sound and proportionate conclusions.
- Understanding of police operations and awareness of the Standards of Professional Behaviour with demonstrable ability to quickly learn the rules of the regulatory framework.
- Strong problem‑solving skills.
- Well‑developed computer skills including the ability to design and develop recording and audit frameworks by use of relational database and spreadsheet facilities, or appropriate business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Excel etc.
- Excellent organisation skills, including the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines managing your own time effectively to deliver multiple workflow demands simultaneously.
