The Role & Key Responsibilities
From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.
It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
In this role you will be part of a small and dynamic team responsible for listing high volume minor traffic offences into the Single Justice Procedure (SJP) and Police Led Prosecutions (PLP) courts. This work supports the Chief Constable as National Police Chief Council (NPCC) lead for Roads Policing and links directly to the NPCC strategic plan to make roads safer by denying offenders the use of the road network .
This team also have the responsibility to prepare, raise, serve and list the charges for all criminal cases that utilise the Postal Charge Requisition (PCR) pathway into court and includes some of the most serious and complex crime types. This work includes liaising with the courts to manage listing of these cases, particularly the Video Link and remand court hearings for defendants in prison and links directly into the force priorities of protecting communities, catching criminals and delivering an outstanding service to the people of Sussex.
You will be dealing with a range of internal and external stakeholders all the while supporting the force drive to bring offenders to justice and give victims closure.
Skills & Experience
- You should be educated to GCSC level with a pass in English.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skill as you will have daily contact with a wide variety of individuals and organisations, such as victims of crime, defendants, witnesses, members of the Crown Prosecution Service and Magistrates Court representatives.
- Ability to remain calm when dealing with confrontational calls from defendants.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to negotiate
- Emotional reliance is needed to deal with cases that may have upsetting content.
- Decision making and accuracy is vital with excellent attention to detail required.
- IT literate with the ability to learn systems quickly as the role involves the use of a number of systems including Niche, Common Platform, Libra, WMS and Microsoft office although full training will be provided
- Expected to be flexible with working hours and on occasions be prepared to work overtime including weekends for which remuneration will be paid
