The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities:

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference. It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe. In this role you will work as part of the Joint Transport Service to maintain over 2000 vehicles across Surrey & Sussex Police, supporting front line operations and everyday policing. The Parts Advisor & Service Receptionist ensures timely vehicle and equipment spares while providing a customer facing service to the workshop customers and suppliers.

The Parts Advisor element requires a sound knowledge of Vehicle systems to source vehicle specific parts to support the Vehicle Technicians having a direct input on the number of available vehicles on the operational frontline. Vehicle and equipment technology is rapidly changing from the historic Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) to Hybrid Power and transition to Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) which means an expansion of the knowledge base requirement.

You will work alongside a supportive team that encourages collaboration, learning, and professional growth. The team work collectively across four locations around the Forces, providing proactive support and cover both remote and physical to ensure appropriate resource levels. It requires effective and appropriate communication with suppliers for items required to support workshop activities and JTS operations.

The role is dynamic and fast paced with a variety of tasks throughout the day, meaning no day can be the same especially when supporting a wider organisation that works 24/7. In addition to the basic salary the role attracts a shift allowance for working a 4 on 4 off shift pattern including weekend but excluding bank holidays, attracting an additional 19.8% starting at £5,745.21 and increasing to £6,139.23. The post also attracts a tool allowance of £600 per annum.

Skills & Experience:

  • Educated to GCSE level standard (or equivalent) in Maths & English or NVQ Level 3 Vehicle Parts or Equivalent Qualification
  • ICFM level 1 NVQ level 3 administration or equivalent relatable experience
  • Relevant knowledge of Parts for vehicles mechanical systems, additional vehicle systems such as ancillary equipment (ADAS, emergency lighting, CCTV, tail lifts, etc) vehicle electrical systems.
  • Good knowledge of vehicle dealership parts system such as Parts Link
  • Well-developed team building skills in a multi-site management.
  • Excellent planning and organising skills with the ability to work to deadlines
  • Sound communication skills with experience of engaging stakeholders and external suppliers and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Understanding of H&S regulations which include, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) 1998, Lifting Operation and the Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998 & Provision of Work Equipment Regulation (PUWER) 1998.
  • Competent with IT office solutions (e.g. MS Outlook, Word, Excel) and the ability to understand and use any relevant industry software programmes.
  • Proven ability in problem solving and working under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Good experience of working effectively as part of a team and also have the ability effectively to own initiative
  • Demonstrable evidence of raising purchase orders and a good understanding of the procurement and goods receipt process
  • Must be in possession of a current full UK driving licence and be expected to travel to external and internal workshop premises and road test vehicles as part of this role.
