Overview
Join to apply for the Specialist Rehabilitation Engineer role at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust. This post is situated within a specialist paediatric rehabilitation engineering service. The client group currently served have severe and complex physical disabilities and therefore require bespoke assistive technology (AT) solutions in order to undertake activities of daily living. The equipment has a clinical role in the care of the child helping to prevent deformity in particular that associated with seating, standing and lying.
The post holder is required to attend a range of specialist clinics on and off site as a part of a multidisciplinary team to assess the client and establish the AT requirements. They will be required to design, develop and manufacture or modify and adapt existing equipment to an agreed solution and to discuss with those concerned the technical aspects of the use of the equipment produced. They are expected to work within our Quality Management System and make/modify equipment we are registered to manufacture. They are also expected to provide a technical advisory role to the junior members of staff within the service and outside agencies as appropriate.

This role is for a B6 ‘Register of Clinical Technologists’ (RCT) registered Rehabilitation Engineer, however, we will consider recruiting an experienced B5 Rehabilitation Engineer who is eligible and willing to become registered. There are multiple routes to registration, and the route and timeline will be agreed upon prior to starting the position. You will be required to complete all training activities within the allotted training time frame and progression to B6 will depend on successful RCT registration.
This role will involve being active within the clinics we run at Chailey. You will attend clinics along with Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, medics and other engineers. You will jointly assess the complex clients we see and help to design, develop, manufacture new equipment or adapt existing equipment. You will be an active member of the clinical team and contribute your technical knowledge in relation to the problems aiming to be solved. You will be responsible for managing any ongoing actions, writing up technical plans and drawings, gathering prescriptions and quotes from companies and applying for funding. You will need to keep track of all your ongoing work and ensure it\’s completed in good time.
Outside of clinics you will be an active and engaged part of the RES team where you will be involved in ongoing groups and projects with other team members.
