Restored to its former glory, The George Hotel has proudly sat on Colchester High Street in Essex, close to the City’s Castle, for over 500 years. Guests are welcomed to a lavish stay in our beloved hotel full of charm and history, invited to sleep in one of the 49 heritage rooms or suites with emperor beds or the 44 modern rooms of St Nicholas’ House. All rooms are full of designer touches and period features you would expect from a hotel of this age. Dine in the relaxed two-tiered restaurant that offers a daily à la carte menu inspired by British and worldwide cuisines, using locally sourced and seasonal produce. Lighter lunches can be taken on the Moroccan style Courtyard area, or quintessential English Afternoon Tea in the Victorian Themed ‘T-at The George’ Tea room - there’s something to suit all tastes at The George.
To be a successful part of our food & beverage team you will need:
- A positive, can-do attitude towards all customers and other team members.
- A thirst for knowledge toward learning all things food and drink related, including spirits, wines, cocktails and the “perfect serve” to each customer.
- A willingness to learn about different food styles and service, learn the menus and understand how to explain each dish to customers.
- Great communication skills and enjoy interacting with customers in a lively, fast-paced environment.

In return we ask for our F&B team to:
- Give great service to guests - taking guests' orders, serving food & drinks, taking payments and providing excellent service to customers.
- Meet all site standards of service & work within the team leading to a great guest experience.
- Have/develop a good understanding of serving coffees, alcohol and wine in both bar and restaurant environments.
- Be available for opening and closing shifts which will include weekends & bank holidays on a pro-rata basis.
- Be willing to continue your development with both in-house and external training sessions.
