JOB DESCRIPTION
The Principal MES Operator is a senior, hands-on operational role within the MES packing department. The role is focused on end-to-end execution ownership of assigned Marine Evacuation Systems (MES), ensuring systems are packed, shipped, and handed over first-time-right, in line with contract scope, quality requirements, and delivery commitments at the point of execution. This role remains fundamentally an operator role, with the majority of time spent on physical packing and execution activities. The “Principal” designation recognises deep product expertise, accountability for outcomes, and leadership through example.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Acts as the execution owner for assigned MES systems from contract handover through packing, shipping, and close-out.
- Remains hands-on in the physical packing of MES systems, ensuring correct configuration, completeness, and workmanship.
- Attends contract handover to fully understand scope, configuration, risks, and milestones from an operational perspective.
- Leads production readiness activities, including material availability, manufacturing lead times & packing sequence readiness.
- Releases and manages production orders related to assigned MES systems.
- Performs and signs off critical packing and readiness checks.
- Identifies and resolves operational issues in real time, escalating only where necessary.
- Works closely with Technical, Quality, Supply Chain, and Logistics to ensure readiness and alignment.
- Owns shipment readiness, documentation alignment, and handover to logistics.
- Supports installation and service feedback where required to capture operational learning.
- Participates in contract close-out and reports on quality outcomes, delivery performance, efficiency, and execution issues.
- Feeds learning back into packing standards, readiness processes, and future contracts.
- Acts as a role model for safe working, quality standards, and ownership behaviour within the MES packing team.
Skills
- Strong ability to understand and execute complex, bespoke MES configurations.
- Demonstrates ownership and accountability for outcomes, not just tasks.
- Able to plan, organise, and prioritise own work effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Communicates clearly and confidently with technical, quality, and operational stakeholders.
- Identifies issues early and takes proactive action to prevent escalation.
- Works effectively across functions to achieve shared delivery objectives.
- Maintains focus on continuous improvement and first-time-right execution.
Values
- Drive: Takes personal ownership for delivering MES systems right the first time. Maintains high standards for safety, quality, and delivery even under pressure. Follows through on commitments and ensures work is completed to the required standard.
- Collaboration: Works effectively across Operations, Technical, Quality, Supply Chain, and Logistics. Communicates clearly and constructively to align execution and resolve issues. Shares knowledge and supports colleagues to strengthen team capability.
- Innovation: Identifies opportunities to improve packing, readiness, and execution practices. Challenges inefficient ways of working and avoids unnecessary workarounds. Applies learning from installation and service feedback to improve future delivery.
- Resolve: Takes ownership of problems through to resolution rather than escalation. Remains calm and focused when issues arise during execution. Makes timely, practical decisions at the point of execution to protect quality and delivery.
Experience and Qualification
- Significant operational experience within MES packing.
- Proven ability to execute complex, bespoke systems to a high-quality standard.
- Strong understanding of quality, safety, and compliance requirements in a regulated environment.
- Demonstrated ownership of work and ability to drive outcomes through execution.
- Experience working across functions to deliver complex operational objectives.
