As a Survey Technician Apprentice at Survey Solutions, you have the exciting opportunity to progress your career within the geomatics sector for a leading engineering surveying company. You will follow the company’s structured training program and undertake on-the-job training lead by experienced surveyors, giving you the unique opportunity to earn whilst you learn. You will work on exciting and varied land and measured building surveying projects, learning to conduct surveys on site using innovative technology and how to process data in the office. This position is based from our Bedford office.
The Apprenticeship:
You will undertake the Survey Technician Level 3 apprenticeship at Bedford College. Attending college 1 day per week over a 2 year course (plus a 3-6 months end point assessment period).
You will learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a Survey Technician in line with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) competencies. The course focuses on collecting information from site inspections to inform advice to clients on land, property or construction.
Apprentices will achieve a Level 3 Diploma in Surveying and will become Associate members of RICS (AssocRICS).
Career Progression:
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, and Survey Solutions\’ internal training programme, you will be able to complete your own surveys independently and to a high standard, working as a Survey Technician. You will also gain professional membership from RICS.

Survey Solutions is a leading engineering surveyor specialising in land, measured building and underground utility surveys as well as monitoring and site engineering schemes. We have a network of nine offices with our teams of surveyors and engineers working on some of the UK’s major construction and infrastructure developments.
Main Duties/Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute effectively to the smooth running of projects by assisting surveyors on site to achieve agreed goals, project outputs and consistently delivering high quality performance
- Setting up surveying instruments, recording data and providing logistical support to Surveyors
- Undertaking tasks within the office environment to assist with project completion e.g. processing surveying data, instrument checks, organising and loading equipment, data input
- Maintaining the instrument to a high working standard and ensuring its fit for purpose
- Undertake the Surveying Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship, attending college 1 day per week
- Undertake the structured Survey Solutions training program alongside the apprenticeship
- Attend and contribute effectively to training and development days to assist your progression through the program
- Follow Survey Solutions health and safety policies and procedures and promote a high standard of health, safety and welfare in the workplace and to members of the public while onsite
- A keen interest in outdoor activities
- Previous experience working outside would be desirable
- A minimum of 5 GCSE\’s including Maths & English to Grade C level/ Grade 4
- Candidate must be over 18 years of age due to the regular overtime worked over 40 hours per week and employment law regulations
- Passionate about pursuing a career in surveying
- Good practical and problem-solving skills
- Logical thinker with an ability to deal with figures
- Ability to work successfully as part of a team
- Able to demonstrate and understand the importance of health and safety at work
- Willing to travel regularly with some overnight stays to complete projects
- Commitment to completing and achieving the apprenticeship standard
- Full UK driving licence – desirable
- Able to commute to our Bedford office daily
