We’re looking for an Assistant Survey Manager to support the successful delivery of rail, monitoring, and engineering projects across the UK. Working closely with the Survey Manager, you’ll play a key role in coordinating teams, managing projects, and ensuring work is delivered safely, accurately, and to a high standard. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong rail or surveying experience who enjoys leading people, taking ownership, and contributing to the ongoing growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day management of the Rail, Monitoring & Engineering department
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and delivering survey and monitoring projects
- Act as Project Manager on larger or more complex commissions when required
- Coordinate field teams, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, RAMS, and health & safety standards
- Lead, mentor, and develop field staff, surveyors, and data collection teams
- Support client communication and maintain strong working relationships
- Provide management cover during Survey Manager absences
- Carry out occasional site visits, inspections, and audits
Flexibility is required, as some night or weekend work may be necessary depending on project demands.
Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the railway sector
- Experience managing operational resources, scheduling, and delivering projects
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Competent computer skills including Excel and Microsoft Office
- Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
Desirable
- Experience in surveying, monitoring, engineering, or track maintenance
- Previous experience supervising teams and delivering projects
- Experience producing track monitoring plans and CRT assessments
- CRE experience (track or civils)
- Relevant surveying qualification or working towards professional membership (CICES, PWI, ICE)
