We’re looking for a Survey Manager to guide operations, support strategic development and deliver exceptional service across major rail and infrastructure projects for JWG Survey & Engineering. What You’ll Be Doing
As our Survey Manager, you will oversee the delivery of rail monitoring, surveying and engineering projects while supporting the growth of the business. You’ll lead a talented multidisciplinary team and ensure that both operational and commercial targets are met. This role blends team leadership, client engagement and hands‑on management of day‑to‑day operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations across rail surveying, engineering and monitoring teams, ensuring high-quality delivery and strong client satisfaction.
- Allocate resources effectively and oversee project delivery, ensuring compliance with industry and company standards.
- Engage with clients to understand requirements, prepare accurate quotations and maintain strong working relationships.
- Manage departmental financial performance, including P&L, revenue growth and cost control.
- Report key operational and commercial updates to senior leadership.
- Support regional growth by identifying opportunities, contributing to tenders and strengthening existing client accounts.
- Recruit, mentor and develop team members, promoting a collaborative, high‑performing culture.
- Oversee core people management processes, including 1–1s, performance reviews and holiday approvals.
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety, quality procedures and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
Essential
- Experience managing or supervising survey teams and delivering projects to a high standard.
- Minimum 6 years’ experience as a surveyor or engineer.
- Proficiency with a range of surveying equipment.
- Knowledge & experience of quoting and tendering processes.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage client expectations.
- Strong problem‑solving, organisational and analytical capabilities.
- Flexibility to travel regionally / nationally for client or site meetings.
- Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.
Desirable
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a management role within surveying.
- Strong understanding of office cost control and commercial performance.
- Experience producing track monitoring plans or CRT assessments.
- CRE experience (track or civils).
- Track Handback Engineer training.
- Working towards or holding professional membership (CICES, PWI, ICE).
