Survey Solutions Group is a rapidly growing and acquisitive business operating across multiple trading entities throughout the UK.

As the Group continues to expand through both acquisition and organic growth, we are seeking an ambitious Management Accountant to join our finance team.

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the Management Accountant will be responsible for the preparation and delivery of accurate and timely monthly management accounts, financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls across a portfolio of Group companies.

In addition to supporting Group-wide finance activities, the successful candidate will take ownership of a number of designated subsidiary businesses, acting as the primary finance contact for those entities and ensuring the delivery of high-quality financial information, financial controls and commercial insight.

The role offers exposure to a broad range of finance activities including management accounting, technical accounting, statutory reporting, acquisitions, business integration, systems improvement and process development.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Management Accounts & Financial Reporting
  • Take ownership of the monthly management accounts process for designated subsidiary businesses.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts and reporting packs.
  • Analyse financial performance and explain variances against budget, forecast and prior periods.
  • Prepare and review journals including accruals, prepayments, payroll, fixed assets and intercompany transactions.
  • Deliver timely and meaningful financial information to support business decision-making.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting activities.
  • Assist with Group reporting and consolidated financial information as required.
  • Act as the finance business partner for assigned operating entities and stakeholders.
  • Balance Sheet Control & Financial Governance
  • Own monthly balance sheet reconciliations for designated entities.
  • Ensure all reconciliations are completed accurately and on time, with reconciling items investigated and resolved promptly.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
  • Manage intercompany balances and reconciliations.
  • Support working capital reporting and cash management activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Group financial controls, policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve controls and strengthen financial governance.
  • Revenue Recognition, Work in Progress & Technical Accounting
  • Ensure revenue recognition is applied consistently and in accordance with Group accounting policies and FRS 102 requirements.
  • Prepare and review work-in-progress calculations and supporting schedules.
  • Monitor accrued income, deferred income and contract accounting balances.
  • Support the implementation and continued management of FRS 102 lease accounting requirements across the Group.
  • Assist with technical accounting projects and policy implementation.
  • Support statutory accounts preparation and year-end audit processes.
  • Statutory Reporting & Compliance
  • Support the preparation of statutory accounts across Group entities.
  • Liaise with external accountants and auditors as required.
  • Assist with audit requests and information gathering.
  • Support VAT returns and other statutory reporting obligations.
  • Maintain high-quality supporting documentation and accounting records.
  • Acquisitions & Business Integration
  • Support the Group Financial Controller with the integration of newly acquired businesses.
  • Assist with onboarding acquired entities into Group reporting and control frameworks.
  • Support acquisition accounting and opening balance sheet reviews.
  • Assist with the standardisation of reporting processes and financial controls across the Group.
  • Participate in finance projects arising from acquisitions and business growth initiatives.
  • Business Partnering
  • Build strong relationships with operational teams and business leaders.
  • Provide financial insight and support across designated subsidiary businesses.
  • Assist managers in understanding financial performance and key drivers.
  • Support decision-making through financial analysis and commercial challenge.
  • Respond to ad hoc reporting and analysis requests.
  • Systems & Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency, accuracy and control.
  • Support finance system enhancements and automation initiatives.
  • Assist in the development of improved finance processes and procedures.
  • Promote standardised best-practice financial processes across the Group.
  • Support continued development of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central and other finance systems.
  • Contribute to wider process improvement initiatives as the business continues to grow.
  • Candidate Profile

Essential

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, recently qualified with up to two years' post-qualified experience, or in the latter stages of qualification with relevant practical experience.
  • Experience working within a growing SME or mid-market business, ideally with turnover below £50m.
  • Experience operating within a multi-entity, multi-site or subsidiary group structure.
  • Strong understanding of management accounting, month-end reporting and financial controls.
  • Experience preparing management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Good understanding of revenue recognition principles and work-in-progress accounting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a hands-on approach and can-do mindset.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

  • Exposure to acquisition integration activities.
  • Exposure to audit processes and statutory accounts preparation.
