Our Work Experience offers School and College Students the chance to spend one week, working alongside our experienced industry professionals to get an insight into the world of Space Engineering at SSTL, whilst gaining some new, invaluable skills for the future.
Dates for this work experience will be 1st June to 5th June 2026. We are looking for students in Years 10 to 13 who have an interest in finding out about work opportunities in the UK's thriving Space Industry.
During the course of one week, students will receive a tour of SSTL and get the chance to work closely with some of our engineers. You will be given an overview of some different types of space mission we are working on, and an insight into the engineering activities required to take a project from concept, through design, build and test to an operational mission.
This will provide hands-on experience of a day in the life of a systems engineer, offering a taste of what it is like to be working in the engineering division and systems engineering team in a globally recognised space company.
SSTL do not expect applicants to have any prior knowledge or previous experience within engineering but showing a keen interest in this direction of career is desirable. SSTL endeavour to offer work experience to as many students as possible, therefore due to the high number of applicants we are unable to accept applications from students who have previously completed the programme.
Location: Work experience will be based in our head office in Guildford and will be Monday to Friday. Our office provides free parking, secure bike lock and easy access via shuttle bus from Guildford town centre and train station. We have an onsite (card only) canteen and ample tea and coffee stations throughout.
