An exciting opportunity to make a difference and deliver highly innovative software solutions for spacecraft missions. This role has responsibility for undertaking the design, analysis, and development of Embedded Software for Satellite Systems. Engineers at SSTL are involved on a mission right from concept through to launch, commissioning, and operational life; a true cradle to grave experience and will give you the chance to see your work in Space in a rapid timescale!

Key Tasks

  • Development of complex real-time applications to meet customer requirements and interfaces
  • Ability to capture requirements and deliver software within tight timeframes
  • Ensure effective plans are in place to deliver software in accordance with the schedule and PA/QA requirements of the project
  • Ensure risks to the development are identified, managed and communicated to Projects and Engineering
  • Involvement in internal software peer reviews
  • Other activities as delegated

Previous Experience

  • Several years embedded C software development of real time systems using VxWorks, RT Linux, FreeRTOS, or Bare-Metal
  • Exposure to recognised industry standard software development processes

Qualifications Knowledge & Skills

  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Computing or similar subject
  • Python and embedded C Programming Language
  • Appreciation of digital electronics
  • SPARC, ARM, RISC-V architectures preferable
  • Knowledge of CAN, Serial, and IP communication protocols
  • BitBucket/GIT version control
  • Agile/JIRA development approach
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Results orientated, can-do approach
  • Pro‑active and able to take initiative
  • Decision making and creative problem solving skills
  • Highly organised with clear communication skills
  • Ability to work simultaneously on a variety of projects
  • Able to work autonomously and using own initiative
  • Good team working skills, together with the ability to interface with others at all levels
