Overview

The SEU undertakes targeted disruption and enforcement operations across Sussex, focusing on serious, organised and violent crime. Our work is driven by intelligence from across the force and partner agencies. The team uses a blend of specialist skills, technologies and tactics to safeguard communities and make Sussex a hostile environment for criminality. Officers may work across force boundaries where operationally required.

Remit

  • Tackle high harm threats and organised crime that use the road network to facilitate their offending;
  • Deliver upstreaming opportunities by targeting the lower tiers of criminal networks to identify, disrupt and dismantle higher levels;
  • Provide force-wide resilience by filling identified capability gaps;
  • Support the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee by acting on community intelligence and addressing public priorities;
  • Support investigative teams to secure evidence and suspects in a timely manner, ensuring a positive criminal justice outcome is achieved;
  • Maintain a commitment to fairness and proportionality, actively working to understand and address any disproportionality in our use of powers.

Requirements for Applicants

  • A track record in proactive policing
  • Experience in submitting accurate, high-quality intelligence
  • Understanding of the Force Control Strategy and priorities
  • An investigative mindset and sound decision-making
  • Ability to make fast-paced, risk-based decisions in line with the National Decision Model (NDM), demonstrating ethical, proportionate and justifiable policing practice
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across teams and agencies
  • Confidence managing crime files or end-to-end investigations
  • Ability to work independently with appropriate support when needed

Essential Eligibility

  • Category A (fully operational) officers only
  • Current staff safety and first aid accreditation
  • Successful completion of probation (or completion by the time the role begins)
  • No live misconduct investigations
  • Vetting clearance at MV / SC level (this will be completed prior to confirmation of appointment)

Desirable (training will be provided)

  • Standard response driving (current or held within the last 5 years)
  • Initial pursuit (current or held within the last 5 years)
  • Advanced permit (current or held within the last 5 years)
  • Tactical pursuit and containment (current or held within the last 5 years)
