Upper Gordon Road Surgery is seeking a motivated and compassionate Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive team. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care, supporting chronic disease management, and promoting health and wellbeing within our local community and supporting the wider multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job:

  • Deliver high standards of nursing care to patients within the practice setting
  • Undertake chronic disease management including asthma, COPD, diabetes, and hypertension reviews
  • Carry out cervical cytology (smears) in line with national screening programmes
  • Administer immunisations and vaccinations (including childhood and travel vaccines)
  • Perform wound care, dressings, and removal of sutures
  • Conduct health promotion and lifestyle advice clinics (e.g. smoking cessation, weight management)
  • Carry out NHS health checks and screening programmes
  • Assist in infection prevention and control, including maintaining clinical standards and audit processes
  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous patient records in accordance with NHS and practice policies
  • Support GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team in delivering patient care
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and practice meetings
  • Ensure safe management of clinical stock, vaccines, and equipment
  • Contribute to safeguarding processes for vulnerable adults and children

Within our federation, we hold the GMS contract for Upper Gordon Road Surgery, a highly regarded, patient-centred practice with a list size of 11,000+.

About Upper Gordon Road Surgery: The practice is supported by a strong, diverse and experienced clinical team, including paramedics, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, and a dedicated nursing team. Alongside the onsite team, the practice benefits from the federation's central management support across operations, HR, finance, governance, and senior clinical leadership, creating a resilient collaborative environment that enables clinicians to focus on delivering high-quality patient care.

Surrey Heath Community Providers Ltd offers a 365-day, 52-week service delivery across some services, and as part of that, we offer a 7 days a week from 0800 hrs to 2000 hrs service. So you may be required to work evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays as part of your normal working hours, as per the needs of the business.

Person Specification:

Experience:

  • Experience of working with healthcare professionals and/or previous experience in the NHS or social care
  • Understanding of local and national NHS policy
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance within primary care
  • Previous experience in cervical cytology screening
  • Previous experience working as a practice nurse in primary care

Qualifications:

  • 4 GCSEs (C and above) including English and Maths or equivalent
  • NMC Registration
  • Up-to-date training in immunisation and cervical screening
  • Postgraduate diploma or degree in primary care

Skills:

  • Competent in treatment room procedures: wound care, ECGs, phlebotomy, immunisations, and cervical screening
  • Managing patients with long term conditions such as diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension
  • Highly effective communication skills, both written and verbal
