We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and dynamic Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our friendly and hardworking team on a fixed term contract ending 31st March 2027. We offer community-based neurorehabilitation, which encompasses inpatient rehabilitation, early supported discharge, and community rehabilitation for individuals with neurological conditions.
The successful candidate will need to be an effective communicator with both service users and the wider MDT members, and they will need to be flexible and timely in their decision-making and professional approach. We offer frequent supervision; regular development reviews and access to band-relevant support groups to ensure you feel supported and continue to develop professionally. Opportunity will be provided to develop leadership skills within a supportive environment.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting and developing junior staff, educating students, and delivering training sessions to the team as part of our in-service training programme.
Please note: A valid UK driving licence and access to a car for work purposes are essential for this role due to community-based visits. The postholder will be based in Epsom General Hospital but will also cover the inpatient stroke bed at Dorking community hospital in addition to outpatient clinics, home visits and care home visits across Surrey Downs area.
To provide a comprehensive and co-ordinated range of specialist occupational therapy therapeutic and preventative services in acute and community settings, which maintain or improve people's health, independence and quality of life. Working as part of the multi-disciplinary/multi-agency team.
Responsibilities:- Applying specialist knowledge and skills across the total range of neurological impairments, procedures and practices gained through practical experience, underpinned by theoretical knowledge.
- Care group includes long-term neurological conditions, stroke and traumatic brain injury.
- To assess and implement specialist treatment programmes as an autonomous practitioner, maintaining associated clinical records.
- To work unsupervised reporting back and receiving guidance and teaching from the senior occupational therapist / team leader on a monthly basis.
- To participate in the day-to-day management of the specialist service provision undertaking tasks as delegated by the Team Leader, supporting new graduates and less experienced therapists, and non-registered staff members on a daily basis.
- To provide formal supervision to nominated staff members and students.
- A valid UK driving licence and access to a car for work purposes (essential for this role due to community-based visits).
- Experience in neurorehabilitation and the ability to communicate effectively with service users and a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Flexible and timely in decision-making and professional approach.
- Willingness to develop leadership skills and to support and develop junior staff and students, including delivering training sessions as part of in-service training.
