Band 7 Podiatrist for Surrey Downs Health and Care Podiatry Team. Part‑time post (4 days per week) based in Surrey, working across community clinics and domiciliary settings. The role involves managing a varied caseload of high‑risk patients, providing podiatric pathology treatment, nail surgery and advanced podiatric therapies. The successful candidate will also teach, mentor and supervise students and podiatrists, line manage and support the team.
Responsibilities
- Work as an integral member of the Podiatry team delivering high‑quality, innovative podiatric care to patients with high risk needs.
- Provide early intervention, maintain mobility and independence, prevent disability.
- Use complex assessments to diagnose, develop specialised treatment plans and apply evidence‑based podiatric treatments for complex medical conditions.
- Manage a highly complex and specialised caseload, coordinating assessment, surgical intervention, post‑operative evaluation and alternative management plans when surgery is inappropriate.
- Evaluate surgical interventions with outcome measurements.
- Promote patient empowerment by providing education and information on foot care, including footwear advice.
- Collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team (Consultants, GPs & allied health professionals) and advise patients, carers and other health professionals.
- Conduct comprehensive neurological and vascular assessments, wound debridement, advanced pathology and gait analysis.
- Operate diagnostic procedures such as Doppler ultrasound and interpret results.
- Deliver services at various sites (home, clinics, GP practices, hospitals) and work independently where required.
- Obtain informed consent prior to treatment and ensure all patients are appropriately assessed before surgery.
- Carry out thorough medical assessments for local anaesthesia and minor surgery, triage patients for nail surgery, liaise with GPs, document consent, and train staff on issues arising.
- Perform specialist surgical intervention for complex nail pathologies (e.g., nail avulsions, chemical destruction).
- Lead colleagues in clinical emergencies (anaphylaxis, toxicity reaction, myocardial infarction, hypoglycaemic attack, etc.).
- Support the team with domiciliary visits, manage time and scheduling.
- Maintain clear, comprehensive, and accurate records, update patient histories and develop treatment plans.
- Adhere to infection control standards in challenging environments.
- Manage clinical risk for own caseload and support team podiatrists in risk management.
- Cover for colleagues during emergencies and annual leave when required.
- Teach and assess colleagues, students, newly qualified podiatrists and podiatry assistants in local anaesthetic administration and surgical procedures.
- Lead education on infection control, audit and guidance application.
Person Specification – Essential Criteria
- HCPC Registered Podiatrist (DPodM or BSc).
- Local Anaesthetic Certificate.
- Full driving licence (Car Driver).
- Post‑graduate education/CPD in minor/nail surgery.
- Professional Portfolio.
