We are looking for people to join us on the journey of handing cricket over to future generations as the most inclusive and diverse sport in the world.

We’re looking for a Casual Grounds Person to help maintain our world-class pitches to the highest standards. You’ll be part of a passionate team that takes pride in making sure our grounds are always looking their best. It’s a hands-on role, so you’ll need to be flexible, detail-oriented, and genuinely interested in turf care, especially in a sporting environment. It’s a great chance to grow your skills in a place that supports your development and always aims to be the best. And if you’re keen to progress, there’s a clear path to becoming a senior grounds person once you’ve got the right experience and qualifications.

What you’ll do:

  • Ensuring the Club’s playing surfaces are maintained and presented to the highest possible standards using the latest turfcare machinery, equipment, and techniques.
  • Match day duties: setting up practice facilities/fielding nets, positioning boundary rope, setting out fielding discs, positioning sightscreens, setting up advertising boards, sweeping wicket at interval, repairing foot holes, re-marking wicket.
  • All aspects of cricket ground preparation and renovation including deploying rain covers, mowing, marking out, and the operation of pedestrian and tractor mounted machinery.
  • Work with our team of groundstaff enabling the smooth running of matchdays and non-matchdays.
  • Tidying and litter picking.
  • Strimming and hedge cutting.
  • Routine maintenance of turfcare machinery.
  • Maintain health and safety in the workplace and comply with company procedures and guidelines.
  • All other duties consistent with grounds preparation at an industry leading sporting venue.

The Person:

  • Strong collaborative skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to delivering work of the highest standard with attention to detail and pride in presentation.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Flexible and proactive approach to working hours, including availability for evenings and weekends in line with the demands of the cricket season.
  • Genuine passion for sport, with a clear understanding of the operational requirements of cricket fixtures and seasonal demands.
  • Good turf skills and ideally some experience of preparing a cricket wicket.
  • Good all horticultural knowledge.
  • Turf science qualification or equivalent desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to carry out basic maintenance on equipment.
  • Spraying qualification desirable.

Competitive salary:

  • 5% Club Bonus Scheme
  • 23 days holiday increasing to 28 days based on length of service
  • Non-Contributory Pension scheme / Private Health Care Membership for domestic games
  • Tickets for International Games and lots more
