The purpose of the Community Coach role is to promote, develop and coach cricket within Surrey. The successful coach will be coaching on and developing our key projects with partners such as Chance to Shine, Lord’s Taverners, ECB and MCC Foundation. The coach will inspire participants and support our key programmes in order to increase participation and retain players in the game. The coach should exert energy and enthusiasm and have a passion to support and develop the game, collaborating with multiple partners and organisations. The role combines coaching with development work, and the successful applicant will be responsible for engaging with participants of all ages across Surrey. The Community Coach will be based at either the Kia Oval and cover the seven boroughs of South London or the Guildford office, where you may work across Surrey.

Responsibilities

  • Actively work with the schools and youth people teams to support and deliver cricket within the county, to develop and connect programmes and to provide a pathway for children to continue playing cricket from childhood to adulthood.
  • Deliver on a variety of our programmes such as Chance to Shine Schools & Street, All Stars and Dynamos, Lord’s Taverners, MCC Foundation Hubs and Level Up & Sharpen Up courses.
  • Delivery of 26-28 chargeable coaching hours per week.
  • Support the transition of players from schools into wider extra-curricular sessions such as Chance to Shine Street, MCC Foundation hubs, local cricket clubs, ACE Academy, Lord’s Taverners Super 1s.
  • Administrative duties, including communication with schools & parents via emails, phone, WhatsApp and other communication platforms.
  • Use own initiative to help grow projects and increase participation levels and highlight areas of low participation.
  • Help to upskill staff across schools and use online resources to embed cricket across the curriculum for years to come.
  • Identify children with potential or keen interest and signpost them to local cricket clubs, street sessions, MCCF hubs, ACE academy programmes, and talent pathways.
  • Support local and national competitions as required.
  • Support the Surrey Cricket Foundation team in the delivery of key events and other cricket development activities.
  • Identify and record individual or group case studies for promotional and monitoring and evaluation purposes, working alongside the Marketing and Communications Officer throughout the year.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience

Essential

  • Experience in a similar role, either paid or voluntary.
  • Core Coach (level 2 equivalent) ECB Coaching Qualification / multisport coach.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly with a ‘can do’ attitude, resilient and adaptable.
  • Ability to use own initiative to solve problems and be proactive on the ground.
  • Effective communication and people skills.
  • Good computer literacy, including MS Office.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • A keen interest and understanding of cricket.
  • Knowledge of Chance to Shine, All Stars and Dynamos Cricket national programmes and the school sports network.
  • Experience in communicating with and an understanding of state primary & secondary schools.
  • Driving licence and access to road transport.
