b Overview /b p As Employment Senior Lawyer you provide practical, solutions-focused employment law advice to the Council and its partners. You join a supportive in-house team delivering high-quality legal assistance, representation and training. The role combines advisory work with managing tribunals and leading/mentoring junior colleagues. You will influence how the authority handles complex employment matters while working in a hybrid setup and supporting residents across Surrey. /p b Pay / Benefits /b ul li 26 days holiday rising to 28/31 /li li option to buy additional leave /li li local government pension /li li carer’s leave and volunteering days /li li family leave provisions /li li Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) /li /ul b Responsibilities /b ul li Provide solutions-focused employment law advice to the Council, Surrey Fire and Rescue and Surrey schools /li li Collaborate with Human Resources on disciplinary actions, grievances, discrimination, whistleblowing, recruitment, restructures, TUPE and exit strategies /li li Develop and maintain strong business partnering relationships /li li Manage Employment Tribunal cases and liaise with ACAS for conciliation, including drafting responses and advocating at hearings /li li Instruct and manage external counsel under client requirements /li li Deliver internal training and legal updates on relevant topics /li li Lead or contribute to client meetings and advise Members and Senior Officers /li li Prioritise multiple deadlines and maintain exemplary client care and organisational skills /li li Supervise junior team members and ensure effective use of case management systems following Lexcel standards /li li Contribute to training or mentoring of colleagues /li /ul b Key requirements /b ul li Substantial experience in employment law /li li Experience in both contentious and non-contentious matters /li li Ability to provide clear, accurate, practical advice to clients at all levels /li /ul ul li excellent client care /li li strong interpersonal and communication skills /li li ability to manage competing priorities /li li employment law expertise (discrimination, whistleblowing, TUPE, grievances, disciplinary actions) /li li litigation and tribunal management /li li advocacy at hearings /li /ul
