Overview

As an Adults Senior Lawyer, you will join a supportive in-house team delivering specialist legal guidance and representation for adult social care matters.

You will handle a varied caseload, including Court of Protection work, and provide clear, practical advice to the council and its partners.

The role blends contentious and non-contentious work with opportunities to mentor juniors and contribute to training.

This position supports local government transformation and better outcomes for residents, with hybrid working and cross-site collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of Court of Protection cases
  • Provide advice on Ordinary Residence, MH Act s117 Aftercare, and NHS Continuing Health Care
  • Advise Local Authority in inter-agency disputes
  • Resolve and case-manage disputes
  • Instruct and manage external legal service providers
  • Run internal training and provide legal updates
  • Lead/contribute at client meetings
  • Advise Members and Senior Officers
  • Supervise junior team members and ensure effective use of case management systems
  • Contribute to development, training or mentoring of colleagues
  • Key requirements
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FILEX with current practising certificate
  • Experience in both contentious and non-contentious adult social care matters
  • Ability to work with clients at all levels and provide clear, practical advice
  • Experience in managing external legal service providers
  • Demonstrated client care and organisational skills
