The predicted salary is between 46600 - 59000 £ per year.

The salary range for this role is £54,636 - £58,953 per annum, working 36 hours per week. We are looking for an Assistant Team Manager (ATM) to join our Mental Health East team, who will be able to demonstrate a high level of understanding and commitment to the personalisation agenda and be able to demonstrate an applied knowledge of Adult Social Care legislation including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act and the NHS Continuing Healthcare National Framework.

The team is based at Woodhatch Place in Reigate and supports residents across the local boroughs of Tandridge, Redhill, Merstham, Reigate, Horley and Banstead.

About the Team

At Surrey we are proud to be leading the way in implementing new ways of working in personalisation and a recovery-focused strength-based approach. Our goal is for our service-users to be able to be more in control of their care, making informed choices and being active citizens in their community. We are a supportive team, consisting of AMHPs, Senior Social Workers, Social Workers, Senior Social Care Assistants and administrative staff. We strive to support each other, as well as the residents we work with.

About the Role

As the ATM, supporting the Team Manager to deliver high quality personalised adult social care, with a clear strength-based agenda, will be an important part of this role, as will your responsibility for verifying assessments and authorising when appropriate. You will be supervising both qualified and unqualified staff; working in accordance with the Care Act. You must also be able to demonstrate an applied and effective knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding vulnerable adults' procedures and be able to evidence this.

You will have an understanding and commitment to supporting carers and a demonstrable commitment to providing management that supports and promotes Surrey County Council's equality and diversity policy.

Shortlisting criteria

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

  • Professional qualification in Social Work with current registration (Social Work England or relevant authority).
  • Significant post‑qualification experience, including management experience within a social care setting.
  • Strong knowledge of legislation, assessments, care planning, and reviewing outcomes.
  • Proven ability to provide effective professional supervision to AMHPs and less experienced colleagues.
  • Confident in making sound, flexible decisions that respond quickly to changing needs.
  • Able to prioritise daily challenges and build effective partnership relationships with individuals and professionals.

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and locality based social care workers will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long-term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.
