The predicted salary is between 45344 - 50471 £ per year.

The salary attached to this 3-day per week role is Teachers' Pay Range (fringe): £45,344 - £50,471 per annum, pro-rata for part-time hours, with an SEN allowance of between £2,679 - £5,285 per annum dependent on whether the successful applicant holds the Post Graduate Diploma in the Education of Children/Young People with Vision Impairment (a mandatory qualification for Teachers of visually impaired children and young people).

We in Physical and Sensory Support (PSS) are excited to be recruiting for an Advisory Teacher of Vision Impairment to join our fantastic team for 3 days per week (0.6FTE). PSS is a county-wide team sitting within Children, Families and Lifelong Learning.

About the Role

PSS is a team which includes Teachers and Specialist Teaching Assistants who work in home and school settings. As an Advisory Teacher for Vision Impairment (ATVI), you will work with visually impaired children and young people across the range of ability, between the ages of 0 and 19 years (as well their families, Teachers and other involved professionals).

As an ATVI with PSS, and being a qualified Teacher, you will bring your recent teaching experience and extensive knowledge of special needs and disability to the role. You will be delivering a statutory service to vulnerable children and young people, some of whom are potential braille-users. If you do not hold the Post Graduate Diploma in the Education of Children/Young People with Vision Impairment, we will enrol you for a funded two-year, part-time university course commencing September 2026.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your CV and personal statement should clearly evidence the following:

  • Teaching qualification showing QTS
  • Commitment to, and knowledge and recent experience of, working with visually impaired children and young people and/or children and young people with additional needs and disability
  • Experience of working within a team and the positive contribution you have made
  • Willingness to undertake a funded, 2-year post-graduate course in the education of children/young people with vision impairment
