We\βre excited to be recruiting a new Assistant Team Manager to join our fantastic Epsom General Hospital Team.
This is a hybrid role, working from the office base at least three days per week, in line with our Team Charter. Our service operates from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 4pm at the weekend. This Assistant Team Manager role covers Monday to Friday.

About the Role

Based in Epsom Hospital, our team is known for its collaborative culture, commitment to professional development, and strong track record in delivering timely, person-centred hospital discharges.
Our team is one of five of Surrey County Council\βs acute hospital teams consisting of qualified and non-qualified staff and sitting within the Adult Social Care directorate. We play a vital role in supporting safe and timely acute hospital discharges. Working closely with health partners, residents, and families, we ensure people receive the right support at the right time. The team is supportive of each other, working closely to ensure our clients are supported throughout the discharge process. Patients are supported on discharge with packages of care to return to living in the community, or short-term placements, under the discharge to assessment framework, enabling assessment post-discharge within a set timeframe as they regain their independence to the maximum.
The key responsibilities as an Assistant Team Manager will include:
- Managing and supporting the day to day running of a busy, dynamic team, effectively prioritising daily challenges and expectations e.g.: managing rotas, allocation of work, oversight of the Duty function and attending discharging planning meetings
- Confidently making sound decisions that respond flexibly and quickly to changing needs that arise in a high-pressure hospital team environment
- Developing effective partnership relationships with individuals, carers and families, and positive relationships with professional health staff
- Providing support to the Team Manager in delivering a high-quality social care service
- Playing a pivotal role in supporting staff to expedite discharges for vulnerable adults and giving specialist guidance and support to staff on managing complex case work
- Supervision and support of staff development and performance to ensure continuous improvement within the team
Your Application
In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:
- Professional Social Work or Occupational Therapy degree and current professional registration with relevant registration authority
- Significant post-qualification experience, including some management experience in a social care setting, and excellent understanding of the social care and health agendas
- Applied knowledge of Adult Social Care legislation, including the Mental Capacity Act and the NHS Continuing Healthcare National Framework
- Effective knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable adults\β procedures
- Excellent communication skills that enable you to successfully manage a team and develop effective relationships
- Examples of when you have provided effective professional supervision to less experienced colleagues
- A track record in inter-agency partnership working
- Strong commitment to achieving positive, strengths-based outcomes that promote maximum community inclusion, and personal choice and control
The role holder will need to have the willingness and ability to travel around the county to meet the demands of the role.
