Salary: £23.69 - £27.57 per hour + 15% annual leave enhancement

This role has a starting hourly rate of £23.69 per hour for most courses, and £27.57 per hour for courses leading to a qualification. In addition, we pay a 15% annual leave entitlement per hour. These rates include preparation and travelling time.

We are excited to be hiring new Adult Learning Tutors to join our Surrey Adult Learning Team. This is a zero hours (bank) contract. The amount of work you are offered will depend on our programme and on your availability for day, evening, and Saturday classes.

About the Role

We are looking for inspirational tutors to deliver learning to adults. If you have a passion for teaching and believe in helping adults achieve their life goals, we want to hear from you!

Courses are being delivered face-to-face in our seven main centres in Guildford, Camberley, Farnham, Woking, Esher Green, Sunbury and Molesey, and remotely in certain subjects.

We are currently looking for tutors in the following areas:

  • Languages: German, Italian, Spanish, British Sign Language, Greek, Japanese.
  • Humanities: Psychology, Counselling.
  • Work Skills and IT: Apple Mac Skills, Digital Skills, WordPress, Social Media marketing, Book-keeping, Business Administration, Computer programming, Microsoft Office 365.
  • GCSE English, Functional Skills English: current experience of teaching the subject in a classroom to adults is essential.
  • GCSE Maths, Functional Skills Maths: current experience of teaching the subject in a classroom to adults is essential.
  • ESOL: current experience of teaching the subject in a classroom to adults is essential.
  • Arts & Crafts: Basket Weaving, Bookbinding, Jewellery, Life Drawing, Mosaics, Pottery, Print Making, Sewing, Soft Furnishings, Furniture Restoration, Photography, Sculpture, Urban Sketching, Woodwork, Writing for Children.
  • Healthy Living: Cookery tutors with specialisms, Physical Activity tutors, Bridge & Chess tutors.
  • Supported Learning: No current vacancies but will consider strong applications.
  • Family Learning: tutors with specialist skills to deliver courses for parents.
  • Passport to Wellbeing: tutors who can provide wellbeing activities.

You will be supported by a professional and experienced line manager. Our tutors ensure that learners are provided with the support to develop and progress their skills, confidence, and employment opportunities through a range of teaching and learning.

A DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check is required for this role and will be discussed further at interview.

About the Team

Surrey Adult Learning delivers more than 3000 courses each year and employs over 200 part-time tutors. As an Adult Learning Tutor, you will be focused on teaching, inspiring and supporting adult learners.

We offer a wide range of courses including English & Maths, ESOL, Arts & Crafts, Languages, Exercise & Dance, Humanities, Work Skills & IT and Cookery.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • To hold a professional UK teaching qualification (e.g., minimum of Level 3 Award in Education & Training, or equivalent).
  • Evidence and demonstrate qualifications and expertise in your subject area.
  • Experience of teaching adults in a classroom environment.
  • Ability to adapt teaching and learning strategies.
  • Confidence in the use of IT.
