The guiding principle and focus of the Digital Data and Technology (DDaT) Department is to provide better services to front-line officers, staff, and support functions to enable both forces to maintain their commitment to the public. Our DDaT Department is currently comprised of approximately 250 people; you would be joining a team that is committed to continuously developing our digital capabilities to enable our colleagues to provide an effective response to our communities and to deal with the complexity of modern criminality through the exploitation of innovative technologies.
As the Strategic Insights Analyst, you will:
- Be the central point of contact for data to work pro-actively with stakeholders to identify and deliver meaningful reporting and insights that will help to inform better service delivery.
- Work with departmental representatives and key stakeholders to develop a framework for mapping public need and internal demands to improve understanding of how Surrey Police is serviced.
- Identify relevant data sources and, using analytical skills, provide products giving evidenced commentary on trends proposing recommendations on actions to be taken, working to strict deadlines.
- Prepare and present independent scrutiny, analysis, and specific advice and recommendations, via exception reporting, to the Senior Management Team, looking in depth at demand and performance matters relating to policing activity.
- This includes the preparation of management summaries and data commentaries to illustrate trends and patterns using appropriate visualisation tools.
- Liaise with key stakeholders, business leads, and practitioners to document strategic demands using standard modelling and mapping techniques.
- Assist in identifying where change is required and create reports making recommendations where there are opportunities for improvement.
- Support the department in the preparation of management reports to support force understanding of current demand, failure demand, future demand, hidden demand, and resource requirements, including for statutory reporting requirements.
- Develop R or Python scripts to produce predictive models for use within PowerBI or analytical reporting.
- Support organisational learning by capturing good practice, learning from other forces, and ensuring records are kept and made available in line with force knowledge exchange strategy.
- Build and develop meaningful business intelligence reports to enable the business to self-serve using Power BI and other analytical tools in order to meet changing business needs and to take a pro-active role within CDD to identify and progress new requirements to improve efficiency of working practices.
- Produce insight reports and documents for presentation at force boards and contribute to the writing and development of the Force Management Statement and business planning reports.
- Hold meetings and workshops with divisional and departmental stakeholders to understand new sources of relevant data and to interpret data to provide insight into how the force could operate more effectively in its delivery of services to victims and the public.
