The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of financial investigators based at Staines and Guildford.
  • Direct and supervise a team of financial investigators based in Surrey and support financial investigators in Sussex Police.
  • Ensure proactive and focused activity to achieve force objectives under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) and other relevant legislation.
  • Maximise asset recovery for acquisitive crime and use financial investigative tools to mitigate threat, harm, and risk.
  • Work closely with other Financial Investigation Managers to provide consistent service delivery across Surrey and Sussex.
  • Provide professional support, guidance, and training to divisional and specialist operational staff and management.
  • Assist the Detective Inspector, ECU, to develop initiatives for efficient resource deployment and advise on best practices.
  • Carry out the role of an Accredited Financial Investigating (AFI) officer as required.
  • Show a willingness to learn and develop knowledge of POCA legislation and application.

Skills & Experience:

  • Accreditation as a Financial investigator, including Cash Seizure, Restraint, Confiscation, and Account Freezing and Forfeiture Orders.
  • Knowledge or accreditation in asset denial of Crypto assets and maintain all accreditation through a Professional Development Portfolio overseen by the National Crime Agency (NCA).
  • Demonstrable experience of line management of staff and/or supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proven knowledge of legislation and case law in relation to Money Laundering, Confiscation, Forfeiture, Restraint, and Civil recovery procedures under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.
  • Ability to lead and supervise financial investigations in consultation with police teams and partner agencies.
  • Up to date knowledge of legislation associated with obtaining and presenting evidence.
  • Detailed knowledge of rules surrounding handling and dissemination of intelligence.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to allocate and prioritise work effectively.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain good working relationships.
  • Ability to persuade, negotiate, and influence at all levels.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise, and accurate reports, working to strict deadlines.
  • Sound knowledge of computers and proficiency in common software applications.
  • Flexibility to respond to changing demands during abstractions and periods of heavy demand.
  • A high level of integrity, diplomacy, tact, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to develop and performance manage individuals, teams, and processes.
  • Ability to deliver training to individuals and teams.
  • Desirable: confidence in delivering presentations to large groups.
