The Sussex Disclosure and Barring team are looking for enthusiastic and result focused team members that have experience of working in a high demand role with the ability to make decisions. The role also requires high levels of attention to detail and writing rationales as to why a decision has been made; experience with report writing is essential.
From your first day with us you will be part of a policing team that makes a real difference, with a mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe in our communities. The Coordinator role involves researching information held on local systems on applicants that are applying to work with Children or Vulnerable Adults in both the Public and Private workforce, working from our offices at Brighton Police Station. The role works closely with partner stakeholders, police officers and other agencies and is responsible for searching and identifying information. Following the Quality Assured Framework, the Coordinator role considers information to be disclosed for the Enhanced Disclosure Certificate. As a Coordinator, once trained, you would have a level of autonomy to complete all applications through initial investigation and progress through to the Chief Officer Delegate for a final disclosure decision. You will be responsible for the initial decision making on all applications whether the information is relevant to consider disclosure for the position that has been applied for or decision not to disclose.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all applicants received in the unit to ensure all applications and referrals are completed in line with the Service Level Agreement.
- Assess and prioritise work streams in order of type and priority, and produce an audit trail of the decisions made.
- Ability to write clear and concise rationale on decisions.
- Clear Communication is important when liaising with internal and external Stakeholders including other Child and Adult Services.
- Monitoring the units mail box, delegating work flows.
Skills & Experience:
- To be successful in this role you must demonstrate knowledge or experience of information gathering, decision making and report writing.
- You would be educated to level A-C in GCSE English or the equivalent qualification; experience will also be considered.
- Well developed interpersonal skills together with excellent verbal and written communication including spelling, grammar and attention to detail.
- Ability to problem solve, make decisions objectively and clearly record in writing your decision process objectively with confidence on how you came to a conclusion.
- Your skills and knowledge will enable you to analyse large amounts of information from various sources.
- Ability to work independently and manage own workload, as well as working as part of a team structure.
- The ability to work under pressure in a high volume environment which will require organisation and planning skills.
- Understanding of relevant legislation including Data Protection, Freedom of Information, Human Rights Act and Safeguarding.
- Strong IT skills in particular with current Microsoft applications.
