Consultant Radiologist - Hepatobiliary Radiology in London

Job Summary: This is a replacement Consultant post. The remit of the postholder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care for Hepatobiliary radiological services. Those who are either diagnostic and interventional trained are welcome to apply.

Main Duties: The Department of Radiology (Denmark Hill Site) is looking to appoint a consultant radiologist to join a friendly, dynamic department committed to providing a timely, high-quality imaging service. This is a replacement post to support the delivery and continuation of our HPB imaging service, which is consultant-led from 8am to 7pm. The post will be based at Denmark Hill and a proposed job plan (up to 10 PAs) is attached. This is subject to review within 3 months of the postholder commencing in post. The successful applicant will join either the diagnostic or interventional rota, depending on their particular skill set. Working ratios are 1:20 for diagnostic and 1:13 for intervention.

Job Responsibilities:

• Provide high-quality care service to patients, including all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group.
• Share responsibility with colleagues for providing 24-hour, 7-day cover for the unit on a rota basis, and cover colleagues’ periods of annual leave and short-term sickness as detailed in your contract.
• Provide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitioners as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
• Carry out teaching, examination, and accreditation duties as required, and contribute to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
• Commit to outpatient clinic duties in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Group management team where part of the service structure.
• Contribute to the Care Group’s research interests in accordance with the Trust’s R&D framework.
• Contribute to audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance programmes, and Learning from Deaths.
• Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the Care Group’s Business Plan, including discussions regarding service plans and developments with internal and external agencies.
• Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).
• Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty, fostering and developing projects aimed at maintaining post-qualification professional education and other appropriate training.
• Work in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced, including involvement in the appraisal process for peers and/or junior colleagues.
• Undertake Care Group management duties as agreed with the Care Group/Departmental Manager/Clinical Director.
• Be aware of and comply with all Trust infection prevention and control policies, including hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.
• Prepare for and undertake the protective interventions you are responsible for in a manner consistent with evidence-based practice and maintaining patient safety.

Person Specification:

• Qualifications & Registration
• Essential: Registerable medical qualification FRCR or equivalent; within six months of the expected date of CCT (or equivalent) on interview day; full registration with GMC with licence to practice.
• Desirable: Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD(Res), PhD, CCT or equivalent).
• Training and Experience
• Essential: Wide experience of all aspects of radiology in the UK, culminating towards award of CCT or equivalent; recent training and experience in specialist HPB radiology.
• Desirable: Post-CCT experience or fellowship in aspects of HPB and/or liver transplant imaging; non-vascular interventional skills – USS guided biopsies/drainages.
• Administration
• Essential: Experience in day-to-day organisation of radiology services in a busy hospital.
• Desirable: Familiarity with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
• Management and Leadership
• Essential: Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams.
• Desirable: Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams; management course and/or qualification.
• Audit and Quality Improvement
• Essential: Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit and quality improvement.
• Desirable: Able to demonstrate ability to lead change.
• Research and Publications
• Essential: Experience of supporting clinical research.
• Desirable: Relevant research experience in radiology; publication of relevant review articles or case reports.
• Teaching
• Essential: Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation.
• Desirable: Teaching skills course/qualification.
