Surf Coast Shire Council invites Expressions of Interest applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment as Chairperson to Council’s Chief Executive Officer Employment Matters Committee.
The Chief Executive Officer Employment Matters Committee operates under the provisions of section 45 of the Local Government Act 2020. The key functions and responsibilities of this Committee are to make recommendations to Council on contractual matters relating to the Chief Executive Officer or the person appointed to act as the Chief Executive Officer including the following:
- The appointment of the Chief Executive Officer
- Remuneration and conditions of appointment of the Chief Executive Officer
- Any extension of the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer under section 44(3) of the Local Government Act 2020
- Conduct performance reviews of the Chief Executive Officer
- Perform any other prescribed functions and responsibilities
The CEO Employment Matters Committee will meet approximately four (4) times per year, in Torquay. A per meeting remuneration fee is offered with this role.
Applications received for the role of Chairperson will be assessed against the following criteria:
- Communication, facilitation and consensus-building skills in complex or sensitive governance environments
- Demonstrated experience chairing boards, committees or executive governance forums
- Demonstrated human resource management skills, senior business experience and qualifications
- Experience conducting or overseeing Chief Executive Officer or senior executive performance evaluation processes
- Experience in senior management recruitment
- Recognised ability in relation to performance management and development of Executive level staff
- Working knowledge of executive remuneration practices
- Previous experience or facilitation experience working with Executive Governance bodies or Board Members in membership and/or facilitation roles
- Some knowledge or experience of local government governance will be an advantage
