Surf Life Saving GB (SLSGB) is looking for an Events & Safety Manager to support delivery across the UK. Events and competitions are at the heart of the SLSGB community, bringing together athletes, volunteers, officials and clubs to celebrate the skills and spirit that underpin our lifesaving mission.
Role: Events & Safety Manager
Contract: Permanent, full‑time (4 days per week may be considered)
Place of Work: SLSGB HQ, Exeter, Devon
Working Pattern: Hybrid, with one day per week in the office (Wednesday)
Reports to: Head of Events
About Surf Life Saving Great Britain
Surf Life Saving GB (SLSGB) exists to keep people safe on our coasts and waterways, uniting communities to save lives. With over 11,000 members nationwide and clubs from Aberdeen to St Ives, we deliver world‑class lifesaving training, qualifications and competitions across beach, surf and pool environments.
Why this role matters
The journey to saving someone’s life begins years before their first rescue. Every lifesaver starts out training on the beach and in the pool, making mistakes and trying again, before getting it right. Through surf life saving GB events, athletes get the opportunity to test their skills in national competitions against the best lifesavers there are. As Events & Safety Manager, you will run events for everyone, from the youngest aspiring lifeguards right up to the most experienced who are saving lives on beaches today. Surf Life Saving GB trains RNLI and council beach lifeguards, DEFRA approved flood rescue teams, the police, and thousands of volunteers every year. Through national events you will inspire and challenge them to be the best they can be, ready to respond when the worst happens.
Role Purpose
The Events & Safety Manager reports into the Head of Events, and together they are responsible for the planning, coordination, logistics, setup, promotion and delivery of national competitions, championships and key events across Surf Life Saving Great Britain. SLSGB events are delivered in partnership with local surf life saving clubs, therefore a critical element of this role is building strong relationships with volunteers in event locations. The Events & Safety Manager will support the end‑to‑end delivery of SLSGB events, including planning and logistics, safety and safeguarding, relationship management, budgeting, marketing and promotions, sponsorship and income generation. They will ensure all events are delivered safely, professionally and efficiently while providing a high‑quality experience for athletes, officials, volunteers, clubs and spectators.
