We're currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer Design Technician, who shares our commitment to quality, service, and environmental improvement.
Overview of the Role: This is a new role to support the Head of Renewable Energy and Contracts Manager in key projects, spanning across various focus areas including investment grade proposals for commercial and residential properties, carbon reduction strategies, energy savings, new technologies, and fuel bills and usage. We are looking for a dynamic and driven individual who can work independently and manage the full cycle of each project. This is a unique role that would suit an individual with a passion to make environmental change and who has a diverse set of skills that can rise to the challenge.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- System design, working on domestic and commercial properties providing solutions for energy efficiency and heat recovery.
- Undertake specification documents for pipe sizing, cable sizing, and work with manufacturers.
- Prepare O&M manuals.
- Analyze and interpret measured energy data.
- Calculate energy assessments.
- Propose solutions to save carbon, energy, and reduce fuel bills/usage.
- Become familiar with new technologies (e.g., hydrogen gas) and become a subject matter expert for projects.
- Communicate and present projects and proposals effectively.
- Manage energy/CO2 emissions performance of existing projects.
- Enable clients/customers to optimize their portfolios.
- Help clients/customers to be “future ready” – considering demographics, technology, and climate.
- Conduct Energy Performance Certificates.
- Provide bespoke/strategic sustainability guidance.
Qualifications:
- Preferred degree in relevant discipline or equivalent (e.g., engineering, sustainability, renewable energy).
- History of delivery in a similar field with working knowledge and qualifications.
Skills & Experience - Essential:
- Understanding of technical aspects of energy and environmental efficiency.
- Previous experience in the M&E industry working in renewables.
- Experience with pipe and cable sizing.
- Experience making system schematics for Solar Photovoltaic and heat pump systems.
- Experience designing and specifying domestic and commercial energy efficiency solutions.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office programs, programming, and project management capabilities.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills with a flexible proactive approach.
- A demonstrable interest in energy efficiency and environmental change.
- Open and honest about errors and demonstrates learning from them.
- Confident decision maker with strong numerical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Driving License.

- Technical understanding of renewable systems.
- Retrofit experience.
- Experience of Building Regulations and policies.
- Technical expertise in buildings and the wider built environment.
- An understanding of the wider context of sustainability from a policy and regulatory perspective.
- Sustainability or engineering experience.
- Experience of translating commercial and residential property owners’ needs into efficient and innovative solutions.
- Hands-on experience developing functional strategies and procedures for energy and carbon reduction.
- Experience of advising on environmental technical design, planning, and Building Regulation compliance documentation.
- Experience of working with clients delivering projects to their needs and requirements.

- £37,500 to £40,000 per annum (negotiable depending on experience).
