Job Title: Microbiologist Assistant Pay Rate/Salary: £12.82 per hour Location: Middleton Shifts: Days, 7am – 7pm (4 on, 4 off) To support the Senior Site Microbiologist in providing timely and accurate micro test data to the business, allowing the effective operation of the Quality management system and conformance to required standards. Responsibilities * Conducting microbiological testing of finished products and relevant associated samples, ensuring they comply with the required specification and GLP. * Collecting environmental samples from around the factory, including water, swabbing and air plates. * Completing Challenge Testing against various samples, working to strict deadlines. * Ensuring the laboratory is maintained to appropriate stock levels and hygiene standards. * Maintaining testing equipment and reagents, ensuring that all equipment is maintained to the appropriate standard. * Completing organism identification under the direction of the Senior Microbiologist. * Managing all duties of the day under own initiative and working independently, whilst escalating necessary information to the Senior Microbiologist. * Conducting data analysis and evaluation of existing processes to identify areas for improvement. * Leading by example regarding attitudes towards product quality and hygiene. * Completing all associated administration duties such as spreadsheets, associated filing and distribution of batch status reports and answer specific email queries. Key Result Areas * Lab audit compliance and working within guidelines of GLP. * CTP of environmental testing. * Completion of accurate microbiological testing- no contaminations/ failures within lab testing. * Completion of Challenge Testing (preservative efficacy tests) to meet Group R&D/ Site given deadlines.Ability to use a case management system once shown . * Good organisational skills and be able to work on own initiative. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Experience with Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) Qualifications & Technical Requirements * Qualification in a Science subject (Biology related). * Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a microbiology laboratory or equivalent microbiology practical skills. * Experience of interpreting and evaluating microbiological results a distinct advantage. * Experience of internal auditing is an advantage.
