Shifts: Monday – Friday

Sure Start Staff are currently recruiting for a Seasonal Gardener to join a busy grounds maintenance team in the Wigan area. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with horticultural or grounds maintenance experience who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in maintaining high-quality public spaces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Maintain operational records and submit documentation to the Team Leader promptly
  • Take responsibility for the security of allocated vehicles, machinery, fuel and materials
  • Operate a full range of grass cutting equipment and powered hand tools
  • Carry out grounds maintenance and horticultural tasks including:
    • Sports pitch overmarking
    • Maintenance of flower beds, rose beds, shrub beds and herbaceous borders
    • Formal lawn care
    • Soft and hard landscaping
    • Pruning and hedge cutting
  • Follow company policies, procedures and Health & Safety legislation at all times
  • Assist with resolving day-to-day enquiries, complaints and operational issues
  • Report issues across the borough including blocked gullies, fly tipping and anti-social behaviour
  • Work flexibly in line with service requirements, including evenings and weekends when required

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous grounds maintenance or gardening experience preferred
  • Ability to work on your own initiative
  • Good communication skills with colleagues and members of the public
  • Flexible approach to working hours

Desirable Qualifications

  • PA1 & PA6 spraying certificates
  • Quad (PA2) certification
  • Full UK Driving Licence
