As Art Technician & Creative Support, you will work with the Director of Art to ensure the Art Department runs efficiently and supports the students' learning. You will provide practical and creative support across lessons, exhibitions and whole‑school projects, contributing to a busy and highly creative department. At Surbiton High School, Art is a highly valued and integral part of our curriculum. Our students engage enthusiastically with creative learning, leading to many choosing Art at GCSE and A Level, and many progressing on to prestigious further‑education courses in Art, Design, Photography, and related fields.
As an Art Technician, you will play a vital role in nurturing the next generation of creative thinkers and makers. You will support students in realising their artistic potential through ambitious, collaborative making, and contribute to a dynamic, highly creative department where experimentation and innovation are encouraged. This is a very varied role that requires a high degree of flexibility. The work produced by our students embraces a wide range of subjects, encouraging them to think beyond themselves and to challenge what they know. Within the department, students study Art, Photography, and Art History, gaining a broad set of skills and knowledge to become fully rounded creative individuals—both conceptually and practically.
What you will be doing: You will support the smooth running of the Art Department by preparing materials, maintaining studios and equipment, managing stock and supporting health and safety procedures. You will assist teachers in practical lessons, provide individual support to students, and help deliver exhibitions, displays and whole‑school creative projects, including the annual musical.
About you: You are organised, reliable and flexible, with strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively. You have excellent IT skills, a good understanding of health and safety, and practical capability to support making processes and move equipment when required. You are committed to professional development and work with integrity, discretion and confidentiality.
