An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon in Weymouth, Dorset, offering the chance to join a progressive small animal practice just 5 minutes from the beach. The role offers a salary of up to £80,000 FTE, depending on experience, with no OOH, a 1 in 4 Saturday rota and a genuine focus on flexibility, protected breaks and work-life balance.

The practice is an RCVS-accredited Nurse Training Practice with a strong commitment to clinical standards, professional development and collaborative working. The veterinary team brings over 40 years of combined experience, including an Advanced Practitioner in Medicine. They are supported by a highly experienced nursing and reception team and an established Practice Manager with more than 11 years' service. Regular clinical and non-clinical team meetings provide opportunities to share ideas, discuss cases and continually improve the way the practice operates.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality first-opinion veterinary care across a varied small animal caseload.
  • Confidently manage routine medical and surgical cases.
  • Develop an area of clinical interest, with particular scope for laparoscopy and minimally invasive surgery.
  • Perform appropriate surgical procedures and provide comprehensive patient aftercare.
  • Build strong and trusting relationships with clients and their pets.
  • Work collaboratively with experienced Veterinary Surgeons, RVNs and support colleagues.
  • Support and mentor less experienced Veterinary Surgeons where appropriate.
  • Contribute to clinical discussions, team meetings and practice development.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and high standards of patient care.
  • Participate in ongoing CPD and professional development.
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive and psychologically safe team culture.
  • Participate in the 1 in 4 Saturday rota.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a strong foundation in small animal general practice. They should be confident managing routine consultations and surgery and have a genuine commitment to delivering high standards of patient and client care. An interest or existing experience in laparoscopy would be particularly welcome. Candidates who are keen to develop this skill will also be supported through appropriate equipment, caseload and CPD. The successful candidate should enjoy working collaboratively and be willing to support and mentor newer colleagues. They should value open communication, professional development and a healthy work-life balance, while being confident working independently when required.
