About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a growing small animal practice in Newton Abbot, Devon.

Salary: Up to £75,000 DOE
Hours: 15–40 hours per week
Weekend rota: 1 in 5 weekends
Out-of-hours: None
Flexible shifts available

This role offers excellent flexibility and would suit both an experienced Veterinary Surgeon or a newly qualified vet looking to develop their clinical skills within a supportive and well-equipped practice.

The successful candidate will enjoy a busy and varied caseload, with clinical autonomy alongside strong support from an experienced team. With no out-of-hours work and flexible hours, the role provides an excellent balance between professional development and personal wellbeing.

About the Practice

The practice is an established, fast-growing small animal service in Newton Abbot, with a strong reputation for high standards of patient care and a welcoming team culture.

The practice is RCVS accredited and holds Silver Cat Friendly status, reflecting its commitment to clinical standards and patient welfare.

The clinical team includes five Veterinary Surgeons and six Registered Veterinary Nurses, including nurses trained in Schedule 3 procedures, supported by Kennel Assistants and a proactive front-of-house team.

The surgery has recently undergone refurbishment, creating a bright, modern and welcoming environment.

Clinical facilities and equipment include:

  • Advanced in-house laboratory equipment

  • Haematology and biochemistry analysers

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality veterinary care with a strong focus on patient wellbeing.

  • Manage a varied small animal caseload with appropriate clinical autonomy.

  • Diagnose and treat medical and surgical conditions.

  • Work collaboratively with Veterinary Nurses and the wider practice team.

  • Seek support and discuss cases with colleagues where appropriate.

  • Participate in regular team meetings and clinical case discussions.

  • Contribute to appraisals and ongoing professional development.

  • Maintain high standards of clinical care and client communication.

  • Contribute positively to the continued growth and development of the practice.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with a genuine passion for delivering excellent patient care.

Both experienced vets and newly qualified Veterinary Surgeons are encouraged to apply, with the practice able to provide support and development opportunities according to individual experience.

Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach are essential. The successful candidate should enjoy working as part of a close-knit team while also being comfortable managing cases independently.

A genuine commitment to continuous learning, clinical development and high standards of veterinary care will be highly valued.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary up to £75,000, dependent on experience
