About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon in Torquay, Devon, offering excellent clinical support, genuine progression opportunities and a strong focus on preventative healthcare.

The role offers a salary of up to £80,000, depending on experience, alongside flexible working, no OOH, generous CPD support and potential progression towards Clinical Director or Practice Ownership.

About the Practice

The practice is a 100% small animal GP-accredited practice in Torquay, providing high-quality first-opinion care and building long-standing relationships with the local community.

The close-knit team includes 4 Veterinary Surgeons, 3 Nurses, 1 Student Nurse, 2 Veterinary Care Assistants, 3 Client Care Advisors and a Practice Manager.

The team benefits from significant clinical expertise, including multi-certificate and advanced practitioner-level knowledge in small animal medicine and surgery. This creates an excellent environment for mentoring, knowledge sharing and clinical development.

The practice operates with a strong emphasis on quality over quantity, averaging around 12 consultations per vet per day, alongside a reasonable procedural caseload.

The working day is structured to include protected breaks and administration time, with non-clinical colleagues also supporting vets with appropriate administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality first-opinion small animal veterinary care.

  • Manage a varied medical and surgical caseload.

  • Conduct thorough consultations and diagnostic investigations.

  • Perform routine surgical and medical procedures confidently.

  • Build strong, long-term relationships with clients and their pets.

  • Promote preventative healthcare and evidence-based treatment.

  • Work collaboratively with experienced Veterinary Surgeons and the wider clinical team.

  • Take advantage of mentoring and clinical teaching opportunities.

  • Develop individual clinical interests through CPD, certificates or research.

  • Contribute to clinical discussions and continuous practice improvement.

  • Support less experienced colleagues where appropriate.

  • Maintain accurate clinical records and high standards of patient welfare.

  • For suitable candidates, develop towards future Clinical Director or Practice Ownership opportunities.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with good medical and surgical skills and confidence working within first-opinion practice.

They should enjoy working as part of a collaborative team and value clinical freedom, preventative healthcare and high-quality patient care.

A strong interest in professional development is welcomed, with opportunities to pursue certificates or research and benefit from experienced mentoring.
