About the Role
A veterinary practice is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its established small animal team in Selby, North Yorkshire.
This is a full-time, permanent position working 40 hours per week, with a salary of up to £70,000 depending on experience plus a £5,000 welcome bonus.
The rota includes just 1 in 4 Saturdays from 9:00am–4:00pm, with no overnight responsibilities thanks to dedicated out-of-hours provision.

About the Practice
The practice is a purpose-built small animal clinic with a loyal and established client base and an experienced multidisciplinary team.
Veterinary Surgeons are given the clinical freedom to investigate and manage cases thoroughly, supported by experienced RVNs and wider clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
The team benefits from significant veterinary experience, creating an environment where case discussion, knowledge sharing and continued learning are encouraged.
Professional development is a particular focus, with funded CPD and certificate support available across areas such as ophthalmology, behaviour, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine and other clinical disciplines.
Dedicated external providers manage overnight and emergency care, while nearby referral facilities provide additional support for more complex cases.
The practice is conveniently located in Selby, with good transport connections to York, Leeds and the East Coast, alongside free parking.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include:

Delivering high-quality first-opinion small animal consultations

Managing a varied medical and surgical caseload

Performing routine surgical procedures

Investigating and working up cases to a high clinical standard

Developing appropriate diagnostic and treatment plans

Exercising appropriate clinical autonomy over case management

Providing preventative healthcare and ongoing patient management

Building strong and lasting relationships with clients

Communicating clearly and compassionately with pet owners

Working collaboratively with Veterinary Surgeons, RVNs and support colleagues

Maintaining accurate and timely clinical records

Upholding high standards of clinical governance and patient welfare

Developing individual clinical interests through CPD and further qualifications
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be an RCVS Registered Veterinary Surgeon with solid experience in small animal general practice.
You should be confident across routine consultations and surgery and comfortable managing your own medical and surgical caseload.
Strong communication and client care skills are essential, alongside a collaborative approach and commitment to maintaining high clinical standards.
The role would particularly suit an experienced Veterinary Surgeon who values clinical autonomy and professional development while still benefiting from an established and supportive team.
