A veterinary practice is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its small animal team in Thurmaston, Leicester. This is a full-time, permanent position offering a salary of £50,000 per year. The role combines first-opinion clinical work with opportunities to contribute to clinical leadership, mentoring and the continued development of high standards across the practice. You will take responsibility for patient care throughout the clinical journey, from consultations and diagnostics through to procedures, prescribing, admissions, discharge and clinical handovers.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering high-quality consultations, diagnostics and veterinary procedures
  • Taking responsibility for patient care and clinical monitoring

  • Prescribing medication and completing dispensing checks
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date clinical records
  • Providing clear updates to clients throughout their pet's treatment
  • Completing clinical handovers for patients requiring enhanced or out-of-hours care
  • Ensuring laboratory testing is completed correctly
  • Maintaining high standards of clinical governance, health and safety and regulatory compliance
  • Supporting effective utilisation of the veterinary and nursing team's clinical skills
  • Contributing to clinical meetings and sharing best practice
  • Mentoring and developing veterinary colleagues where required
  • Supporting graduate Veterinary Surgeons within the practice
  • Working collaboratively with Veterinary Nurses, management and the wider clinical team

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate must be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with experience delivering excellent clinical care within small animal practice. You should be confident managing consultations and procedures while taking ownership of your patients throughout their treatment. Previous experience in clinical leadership, mentoring or coaching would be particularly valuable. You should be comfortable supporting colleagues, sharing clinical knowledge and contributing to a progressive practice culture. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, alongside the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and provide clear explanations regarding treatment plans, costs and ongoing patient care.
