About the Role

An excellent opportunity is available for a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) in Hertford, Hertfordshire, offering a salary of up to £30,000 depending on experience, plus a £1,000 welcome bonus.

This is a genuinely supportive nursing role within a small, close-knit practice where RVNs are encouraged to work autonomously, develop their interests and play an active role across all areas of clinical care.

The practice can consider full-time or part-time applications, with no out-of-hours, no Sundays and only 1 in 3 Saturday mornings. Saturday working is compensated with time off in lieu or additional pay.

About the Practice

The practice is a purpose-built small animal veterinary clinic located in Hertford, offering a calm and welcoming environment for both clients and colleagues.

The close-knit team includes 2 Veterinary Surgeons, a Head Nurse and a small non-clinical team, creating an environment where nurses have genuine visibility, autonomy and influence.

The practice provides excellent facilities, including:

• Separate cat and dog wards

• Isolation unit

• Sterile theatre

• Digital X-ray

• Ultrasound

• In-house laboratory

• Microscope

• Capnography and pulse oximetry

A loyal client base and thoughtfully structured appointments allow the team to focus on delivering high-quality patient care. Non-routine consultations are 30 minutes, providing additional time for thorough clinical assessment and client communication.

The practice also works with visiting specialists in cardiology, diagnostic imaging and orthopaedics, providing excellent opportunities for clinical exposure and learning.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care across a varied small animal caseload.

• Support anaesthesia, surgical preparation, monitoring and recovery.

• Provide comprehensive inpatient care.

• Run nurse consultations and provide client education.

• Perform laboratory work and support diagnostic procedures.

• Assist with theatre and maintain high standards of clinical hygiene.

• Monitor patients closely and provide appropriate nursing interventions.

• Build strong relationships with clients and their pets.

• Work collaboratively with Veterinary Surgeons and the wider practice team.

• Take ownership of appropriate clinical responsibilities and contribute ideas to practice development.

• Continue developing nursing skills through CPD and further qualifications.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a qualified RVN who takes pride in delivering compassionate, high-quality patient care and enjoys being actively involved in a close-knit team.

They should be confident across general veterinary nursing, including anaesthesia, and have an interest in developing their clinical skills further.

The successful candidate will ideally:

• Be RCVS registered as a Veterinary Nurse.

• Be confident across all areas of general veterinary nursing.

• Have strong anaesthesia and inpatient care skills.

• Enjoy running nurse clinics and supporting clients through education.

• Be organised, proactive and compassionate.

• Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.

• Be keen to undertake further CPD and qualifications.

• Value autonomy while appreciating the support of an experienced team.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary up to £30,000 depending on experience

• £1,000 welcome bonus, paid at 3 and 6 months
