Lead Veterinary Nurse – Chippenham, Wiltshire
About the Role
A veterinary practice is seeking an experienced Lead Veterinary Nurse to join its friendly and established small animal team in Chippenham, Wiltshire.
This is a permanent, part-time position working 30 hours per week, offering a salary of up to £36,000 pro rata depending on experience.
The rota includes a 1 in 4 Saturday rota, with no out-of-hours or on-call duties. Flexible working hours and shift patterns can also be considered where possible.
Alongside delivering high-quality clinical nursing care, you will play an important role in supporting and mentoring nursing colleagues, encouraging professional development and helping maintain excellent clinical standards across the practice.

Weekends: Shared 1 in 4 Saturday rota

About the Practice
The practice is a modern and well-equipped small animal clinic with excellent facilities for first-opinion medicine and surgery.
Clinical equipment includes digital X-ray, dental X-ray, ultrasound, VGels and multiparameter monitoring systems, providing nurses with the resources to utilise and develop their clinical skills.
Nurses are encouraged to take an active role in patient care, including running nurse-led clinics and performing Schedule 3 procedures where appropriate.
The established nursing team includes RVNs and Veterinary Care Assistants, with dedicated client care and practice management support allowing clinical colleagues to focus on their nursing responsibilities.
There are also opportunities to work alongside visiting clinicians providing orthopaedic and ultrasonography services.
The practice is conveniently located in Chippenham, with good access to the M4 and local rail connections, alongside free on-site parking.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include:

Delivering high-quality first-opinion veterinary nursing care

Supporting and mentoring nursing colleagues

Helping maintain high clinical and professional standards

Anaesthetic monitoring and perioperative nursing

Providing inpatient care and patient monitoring

Running nurse-led consultations

Performing appropriate Schedule 3 procedures

Assisting Veterinary Surgeons with surgical and medical procedures

Supporting visiting clinicians with advanced cases

Managing clinical stock and ordering

Supporting the development of nursing protocols and workflows

Encouraging continued professional development within the nursing team

Maintaining accurate clinical records

Communicating clearly and compassionately with clients

Promoting excellent standards of patient welfare and clinical governance
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will be an experienced RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse who is ready to take the next step in their nursing career.
You should be confident across a broad range of first-opinion nursing duties, including anaesthesia, inpatient care, nurse consultations and surgical support.
Previous experience supporting or mentoring colleagues would be valuable, alongside strong communication, organisation and leadership skills.
You should be passionate about developing both your own clinical capabilities and those of the wider nursing team, while maintaining a collaborative and supportive working environment.
