This senior leadership role is ideal for a Veterinary Surgeon looking to combine exceptional clinical work with team development, practice improvement, and strategic leadership.

As Head Vet, you will play a key role in driving clinical excellence, supporting colleagues, developing services, and ensuring outstanding standards of care for patients and clients.

Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Patient Care

  • Deliver outstanding first opinion veterinary medicine and surgery.

  • Perform consultations, diagnostic investigations, and surgical procedures.

  • Promote preventative healthcare and evidence-based clinical decision-making.

  • Ensure patients receive excellent standards of care throughout their treatment journey.

  • Support effective inpatient care and clinical handovers between colleagues and external providers.

Team Development & Clinical Excellence

  • Lead and inspire the veterinary team to achieve consistently high clinical standards.

  • Conduct clinical audits to support learning, improvement, and development.

  • Encourage a reflective, no-blame approach to reviewing clinical outcomes.

  • Identify opportunities for training, development, and service improvement.

  • Support colleagues in expanding their clinical skills and confidence.

Practice Performance & Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement across clinical services and practice operations.

  • Review and improve processes, protocols, and standards.

  • Investigate clinical incidents and client feedback to identify learning opportunities.

  • Monitor key performance indicators and identify opportunities to improve both clinical and commercial performance.

  • Collaborate with wider leadership teams to develop services and support practice growth.

Client Experience & Leadership

  • Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service.

  • Build strong relationships with clients through clear and empathetic communication.

  • Provide guidance on preventative healthcare and best-practice treatment recommendations.

  • Act as an ambassador for the practice values and culture.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with strong leadership capabilities and a passion for clinical excellence.

You will have:

  • RCVS registration and eligibility to work as a Veterinary Surgeon in the UK.

  • Experience working within a small animal first opinion practice.

  • Strong clinical and surgical skills.

  • Confidence leading, mentoring, and developing veterinary colleagues.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • A proactive approach to improving clinical standards and patient outcomes.

  • Commercial awareness and understanding of veterinary practice performance.

  • The ability to inspire a team and create a positive working environment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary up to £85,000 DOE
